Professor Murray Esler
Professor Esler is a world leading cardiologist and clinical scientist whose research was pivotal to our understanding of how the heart and sympathetic nervous system interact to affect aging, exercise, mental stress responses, obesity, orthostatic intolerance, panic disorder, depression, heart failure, and high blood pressure. His pioneering work led to the emergence of the field of cardiovascular neuroscience, as well as revolutionary treatment for high blood pressure. Professor Esler is senior director, and head of the human neurotransmitters laboratory, at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. He is also associate director of the Heart Centre, Alfred Hospital, Melbourne; and professor of medicine at Monash University, Melbourne.

Gabrielle is a senior medical journalist, based in Sydney. A former registered nurse, Gabrielle has specialised in medical research and clinical practice reportage, for both doctors and the public, for about 15 years.
